He changed my life.
I met Rand when I was at my most vulnerable. I was truly lost and he seemed to ‘find’ me at the perfect time.
I didn’t know anything about anything. He had a few years on me, a ton more savvy, taste, travel experience, education, intellect… He took me to try sushi for the very first time.
We always seemed to be those friends who may have married if our romantic circumstances ever met up in the right place. They never did. But we loved each other as if we’d spent a million years together. He was with me the day I gave up on life altogether. He was with me when I decided to take it back. He was with me when the clock struck 12 in the year 2000. He was with me the night I met my future husband.
Rand and I were co-workers, friends and roommates until I left, losing myself in a volatile relationship – a relationship that chased me away from my Northern Virginia home.
I hid at my mother’s house, feeling 17 at the ripe old age of 27. I had no job, no direction, no ambition, no hope… I was in the worst place of my life. I sank into a depression I never want to see again…
But then the phone rang.
And it was Rand.
He said he was coming to get me.
And he did.
He drove all night from Virginia to Indiana. He scooped up my tired, listless soul, piled my stuff back into our cars and drove me back to where I belonged. He asked for nothing in return.
He gave me everything that night: hope, support, unconditional love, friendship, comfort, a home…
I will miss you forever my beautiful friend.
You saved me.
I wish I could have done the same for you.
